PARENTS & PUPILS

home learning

At Umberleigh Academy, we believe that home learning plays a vital role in extending the learning that takes place in school and helping children develop essential skills for independent study. Our approach to home learning is focused on providing meaningful, engaging tasks that reinforce key areas of the curriculum and support each child's individual progress.

Aims of Home Learning

Our home learning programme is designed to:

  • Strengthen connections between home and school: Encouraging children to share their learning experiences with family members fosters a supportive learning environment and helps parents engage with their child's education.
  • Reinforce essential skills: Home learning provides opportunities for children to consolidate core skills in reading, spelling, and mathematics, ensuring they build a strong foundation for future learning.
  • Promote independent learning: By engaging in structured tasks at home, children are encouraged to develop habits of self-directed learning and enquiry, preparing them to think critically and manage their time effectively.
  • Enhance creativity and problem-solving: Home learning encourages children to explore topics in greater depth, inspiring creativity and problem-solving skills through tasks that require them to think outside the box.
  • Develop responsibility and time management: Regular home learning helps children build a sense of responsibility for their own learning and teaches them valuable time management skills as they balance schoolwork with other activities.

We encourage all parents to support their child's learning journey by engaging in discussions about their school day, encouraging daily reading, and practising essential skills such as times tables and spelling. Together, we can ensure every child develops the confidence and skills they need to succeed.
